Author Guidelines

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

The main aim of Journal of Ayurveda and Holistic Medicine (JAHM) is to provide platform for sharing the knowledge among the Ayurveda and CAM researchers.  JAHM is indexed in more than 25 international databases.

Authors may submit Original Research Articles, Review articles, Short reviews, Case Report, Case series, Letter to the editor in following disciple:

Ayurveda: Kayachikitsa, Roganidana, Panchakarma, Rasayana, Vajikarana, Samitha, Moulika Siddhanta, Prasooti & Striroga, Kaumarabhritya, Bhuta vidya, Manasa Roga, Shalakyatantra, Shalyatantra, Swasthavritta, Agada Tantra, Sharira Rachana, Sharira Kriya, Dravyaguna, Rasashastra, Bhaishajya Kalpana, .

Allied sciences: naturopathy, yoga, medicinal plants sciences, pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, Pharmaceutics, analytical chemistry, and pharmaceutical chemistry.

Use of Ayurvedic / Sanskrit / Regional language Terms in JAHM

Authors are suggested to use English words in bracket for un popular sankrit words. 

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS:

All manuscripts must be submitted on-line through the website http://jahm.in. First time users will have to register at this site. Registration is free but mandatory. After registartion, login and click on new submission and complete 5 step submission process. Registered authors can keep track of their articles after logging into the site using their user name and password. Authors have to pay publication fees if article is accepted for publication. See details in author payment section. If you experience any problems, please contact the editorial office by e-mail at editor@jahm.in and ayurvasant@gmail.com.

The submitted manuscripts that are not as per the “Instructions to Authors” would be returned to the authors for technical correction, before they undergo editorial/ peer-review. Generally, the manuscript should be submitted in the form of two separate files:

[1] Title Page/First Page File/covering letter:

This file should provide

(a)    The type of manuscript (original article, case report, review article, Letter to editor etc.), title of the manuscript, names of all authors/ contributors (with their highest academic degrees, designation and affiliations) and name(s) of department(s) and/ or institution(s) to which the work should be credited.

(b)    Source(s) of support in the form of grants, equipment, drugs, or all of these;

(c)   Acknowledgement 

(d)   Ethics committee approval letter no. with scanned copy of letter is mandatory for all original research article. Registration number in case of a clinical trial and where it is registered (name of the registry and its URL)

(g)   Conflicts of Interest of each author/ contributor. 

(i)     The name, address, e-mail, and telephone number of the corresponding author, who is responsible for communicating with the other authors about revisions and final approval of the proofs, if that information is not included on the manuscript itself.

[2] Blinded Article file: The Article must not contain any mention of the authors' names, the institution name. The main text of the article, starting from Abstract to the References (including tables) should be in this file. Insert the tables and images in the artcile file itself at the relvant place.

 Manuscripts Preparation

Manuscripts must be written in accordance with "Uniform requirements for Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journals" developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (October 2006). The uniform requirements and specific requirement of JAHM are shown below. 

Copies of any permission(s)

It is the duty of authors to take permissions for reproducing any copyrighted material. A copy of the permission obtained must accompany the manuscript. 

Ethics: When reporting studies on human beings, indicate whether the procedures adopted were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional or regional) and with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 2000 (available at http://www.wma.net/e/policy/17-c_e.html).

Writing References in JAHM

References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text (not in alphabetic order). Don't use the automatic referencing (endnote) tool in MS world. refererence no. should be added manually.

Reference no. should be written Superscript in bracket before the full stop, comma etc. as  [1]

Write the complete name of a journal for non-indexed journals.

Tables

  • All tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end
  • Tables should be self-explanatory and should not duplicate text matter.
  • Tables with more than 8 columns and 16 rows are not acceptable.
  • Number tables, in Arabic numerals, consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text and supply a brief title for each.
  • Provide no. and heading at the top of table 
  • Place explanatory matter in footnotes, not in the heading.
  • Explain in footnotes all non-standard abbreviations that are used in each table.
  • Obtain permission for all fully borrowed, adapted, and modified tables and provide a credit line in the footnote.
  • For footnotes use the following symbols, in this sequence: *, †, ‡, §, ||,¶ , **, ††, ‡‡

Illustrations (Figures)

  • Upload the images in JPEG format. The file size should be within 1024 kb in size while uploading.
  • Figures should be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they have been first cited in the text.
  • Provide no. and heading at the top 
  • All illustrations and figures are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • If photographs of individuals are used, their pictures must be accompanied by written permission to use the photograph.
  • The Journal reserves the right to crop, rotate, reduce, or enlarge the photographs to an acceptable size. 

Publication ethics and publication malpractice statement

Protection of Patients' Rights to Privacy

Identifying information should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, sonograms, CT scans, etc., and pedigrees unless the information is essential for scientific purposes and the patient (or parent or guardian, wherever applicable) gives written informed consent for publication. Authors should remove patients' names from figures unless they have obtained written informed consent from the patients. When informed consent has been obtained, it should be indicated in the article and copy of the consent should be attached with the covering letter. 

Copyrights

The entire contents of the JAHM are protected under Indian and international copyrights. The Journal, however, grants to all users a free, irrevocable, worldwide, perpetual right of access to, and a license to copy, use, distribute, perform and display the work publicly and to make and distribute derivative works in any digital medium for any reasonable non-commercial purpose, subject to proper attribution of authorship and ownership of the rights. The journal also grants the right to make small numbers of printed copies for their personal non-commercial use under Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.

Conflicts of Interest/ Competing Interests

All authors of must disclose any  and all conflicts of interest they may have with publication of the manuscript or an institution or product that is mentioned in the manuscript and/or is important to the outcome of the study presented. Authors should also disclose conflict of interest with products that compete with those mentioned in their manuscript.

Presentation and format

  • Double spacing
  • Page numbers included at bottom
  • Title page contains all the desired information
  • Running title provided (not more than 50 characters)
  • Abstract page contains the full title of the manuscript
  • Abstract provided (structured abstract of 300 words for original articles, unstructured abstracts of about 200 words for all other manuscripts excluding letters to the Editor)
  • Key words provided (three or more)
  • The references cited in the text in superscript with bracket like this after the full stop, comma etc. as  [1]
  • References according to the journal's instructions, punctuation marks checked

Language and grammar

  • Uniformly US English
  • Write the full term for each abbreviation at its first use in the title, abstract, keywords and text separately unless it is a standard unit of measure. Numerals from 1 to 10 spelt out
  • Numerals at the beginning of the sentence spelt out
  • Check the manuscript for spelling, grammar and punctuation errors
  • If a brand name is cited, supply the manufacturer's name and address (city and state/country).
  • Species names should be in italics

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor.
  2. The submission file should be in Microsoft Word 2010 Version. Copyright form in JPG/PDF format. Imgages in JPG format.

    1. Blinded Article file- Do not write author, coauthor, institute name, place name to ensure blinded article.

    2. First page- include author, coauthor details (brief profile, mobile no.) -upload as supplimentary file

    3. scanned copy of Copyright form -upload as supplimentary file.
    4. If necessary images should be in jpg format, not more than 2MB-upload as supplimentary file
    5. Scanned copy of ethics commitee approval and Mention Letter No. of ethics commitee (Human and Animal) approval in the article 
     
    All are mandatory. all these file should be uploaded seperately as Supplimentary File. If The author fails to submit then it will be resent.
    1. The submission file should be in Microsoft Word 2010 Version. Copyright form in JPG/PDF format. Imgages in JPG format.
    2. The text is Double spaced; times new roman, 12 point font. 
    3. Restrict the use of Sanskrit words as far as possible.
    4. Use English translation in bracket for all sanskrit word for first apperance in the article. 
    5. use English words for self-explanatory terms. (e.g. use ‘sleep’ instead of ‘Nidra’)
    6. Sanskrit word should be in italics 
    7. Don’t use diacritics for Sanskrit word
    8. Don’t capitalize the first letter of Sanskrit word except for author, text, place name and beginning word of sentence.
    9. Don’t underline
    10. Use upper case letters for ONLY INTRODUCTION, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES, MATERILAS AND METHODS, RESULTS, DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION (this is not applicable to Abstract matter) 
    11. Italicize the latin words. Latin names are mandatory for medicinal plants
    12. References should be as per JAHM style and written at the end of article. Don't use the automatic referencing tool for numbering the references in MS world. Reference no. should be added manually.
    13. Reference no. should be written before the full stop, comma etc. as [1]
    14. For classical text references the mentioning of chapter no., verse no., edition no.  & page no. is mandatory

    15. References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text (not in alphabetic order).
    16. Where available, URLs for the references should be provided.
    17. All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  4. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Waiver Policy

Atreya Ayurveda Foundation has decided to extend support for MD scholars and students of Ayurveda by partially wavering article publication fees. This is done to encourage the MD scholars to publish so as to enrich Ayurveda across globe.

If this paper is accepted for publication, MD SCHOLAR OF AYURVEDA AS FIRST AUTHOR will be asked to pay an Article Publication Fee of Rs 1,000 (Rupee one thousand only) to cover peer reviewing, copy editing, lay out editing and publications costs.
